Fathers Day Sacrifices

Father's Day is one of the days dads like myself really enjoy and is something we really look forwards to. You know, the day we get a lie in, then get breakfast brought up to us in bed and generally spend the day getting looked after by our kids and partners (if the kids are a little too young). It's the day we get a new mug for our precious morning brew and is usually the day that we go out for tea or order a take away - Dad's choice of course. So you can imagine how excited I was for my Father's Day this year... Well to be honest I wasn't really looking forward to it at all because I was working - silly me told work I would work on the 19th without realising what day it was. I could have probably got off work if we had something massive planned but, I'm a dad, and working on a Sunda...

The time keeper

You may already know but I have actually been "a blogger" now for just over a year and four months. In that time you would have thought that I would have become organised in some way wouldn't you and have some sort of "blog routine" going. Maybe using a blog schedule or a note book with dates and plan's of posts that need writing up. Well no.  I haven't. And to be honest I even think I may be a little more unorganised than I was before. You see the thing is I work full time driving around the country doing a very manual job and I obviously have no access to any sort of computer throughout the day - not that I would have any time to turn one on and write a post even if I did. A typical weekday for me looks a little bit like this - My alarm goes off at around 5.30 but the c...

My Summer Essentials

I don't know if anybody has noticed but the weather outside is certainly starting to change. And with this change of weather I've been spurred on to get the back garden of our house looking nice and making sure it is baby friendly so when the Summer does hit I have time to sit back and relax in it, spending some lovely quality time with my little family rather than working through the summer getting it all sorted.  It's been a slog though - I've had ten hour days at work and then home to put in maybe three to four more hours building decking, re-building fences and trying to sort out my weed ridden grass but it's all coming together nicely now and I'm getting quite excited about the warmer weather arriving. And so with all of this sun and time spent thinking of the sun I deci...

Smart Occasion With Burton's Menswear

I know what you're thinking, "Carl, how many suits do you actually own?" Well I have to say it's actually about six now, and I'm planning on getting many more too. When I started on this blogging path a little over a year ago I spoke quite a lot about how I wanted to start to smarten up my image and I have to say I think I'm well on the way to being successful. I know I've mentioned this in quite a few posts but I really do feel so much more confident in myself these days and when I wear a nice, smart suit this is maximized. And well, with the warmer weather approaching, wedding season will be upon us in no time, meaning that suits - high end, well tailored suits - will be very much in demand. But finding that all important suit, he one that is "just right" is sometimes real...

Gothic Romance featuring Moss Bros AW15

Anybody out there think they live a bit of a double life? Slightly strange question I know but I actually think that I do! I'm a married man and a father to two amazing children - my boy is 10 years old and my baby girl is a little over 4 months old now. For so many years now me and my wife have given up on having any kind of a social life because we just want to be with our kids...plus the money we would spend on a night out we would much rather use to spend on them. Day-to-day I work as an automatic door engineer and I've done the same thing since the day of my 16th birthday, and I'm now 33. Obviously you can imagine that in recent years the work has become a little repetitive and if I'm honest I find it really quite boring really. It's certainly not a job f...

DeadMode – An Independent clothing label

When I started blogging a year ago I talked about my love for independent clothing labels quite a lot in my posts, and I put together a few features which introduced a few cool brands to my readers. As the year went on and my blog began to get quite busy I unfortunately didn't get a chance to search out many more independent labels which I'm kind of gutted about because they are a big passion of mine, in fact it's my only regret blog wise. Growing up I always wanted to be a little bit different from my friends and found the best way to do this was by wearing something which wasn't popular at the time. All my mates were wearing Topman, River Island and all of the other high street brands which, don't get me wrong I used to like too, but sometimes breaking the trend just had to be done. I ...

Feeling great in jacamo

A couple of weeks ago I posted on the blog a post asking if you feel more confident if you are dressed well, which also led me to express how it is that I like to dress smart when I attend places, especially blogging events. Just before Christmas I was invited along, with my blogger wife Simone, to an event in Leeds which was organised by Rhianna - the XmasBloggerMeet It was a fantastic event and was held at the Black Swan on Call Lane in Leeds. I met loads of new blogger friends and also got to catch up with some of the lovely Leeds girls I have met before. I know lot of bloggers get nervous when going to events like this and sometimes they won't attend at all for this reason. I do suffer with the nerves myself, but like I stated in my earlier post, if I feel comfortable and fe...

A Formal Christmas Party Outfit

Wow How is Christmas only a few weeks away?  For me, a father of two now, this is one of my favourite times of the year. Not only do I get to spend a lot of time at home with my family but we also spend quite a bit of time with our extended family, whether it be going to their houses or going out for meals together. And this year I am hoping to be doing more of the same. For me, family time is so important and spending time with each other on these special occasions is key for a great Christmas. This is why the family on my wife's side always go out for a big Christmas lunch at the same place every year and have done so for years and years - I've been going ever since me and my wife got together and this will be my son's eleventh time going now (he was a month old on his firs...

Becoming The ultimate Gentleman, Guest Post

A Guide to Becoming the Ultimate Gentleman Source If you are an average man then it is a pretty safe assumption that you are able to dress yourself properly and that you scrub up not too badly. While this all well and good, how many of us actually want to be considered average? Failure to stand out from the crowd can ensure that you are stuck on the side-lines as a meagre spectator, watching life slowly pass you by as others feast on life’s rewards. How often have you been out and about on the town and seen a dapper-looking bloke who is attired in the latest threads? What’s more, he even seems to have that haircut that you have always wanted but simply never knew how or what to ask for. Unfortunately for us men, we are required to educate ourselves in all elements of style and ...

Denham The Jean Maker

A few weeks ago I was delighted to be invited along to the new Denham jean store in Leeds. The store is located in the Briggate retail district and the main doors open onto the main street which is a prime location on what is probably one of the main shopping streets in Leeds. It's been a while since I last visited Leeds so I thought I'd make the most of it and go for a hair and beard trim first at my favourite chop shop - I mean you've got to look your best for an event, right? I actually didn't think I would make it to Leeds to be honest, I had a little dilemma that morning, I didn't know which shoes to wear.  I know, drama or what! Do you like this photo - I almost look like I know what I'm doing don't I. I feel like I have to try to look my best when attending e...
